Harvesting Date: Mid to Late October
Location: South Lyon, MI (ENINEGRIS)
Approximate Tree Age: 45-60 years
Tree Status: Antique Orchard/Possible Wilding
Possible Tree Varieties: While this could be a chance seedling, its location is such that it may also be the last standing tree from a preexisting orchard. Possibly Grimes Golden over Golden Delicious due to spicier complex flavoring. If I could isolate a few blossoms next spring I could likely determine which variety it is since Grimes Golden is self fertile and Golden Delicious is not.
Fruit size: Medium
Shape: Round-oblong
Fruit color: Green-yellow with slight blush on south-facing fruits
Skin: Thick
Flesh: White to light cream
Additional notes on appearance: Well defined lenticels with the slightest stem-well russetting
Taste: Sub-acid to sweet, with complex flavors. Spicy with a very dry finish and slight, pleasant pine notes.
Texture: Crunchy and juicy despite dense flesh
Texture: Crunchy and juicy despite dense flesh
Additional notes on taste: Has almost no scent/fragrance but complex, lingering flavors make up for this.
Disease/Pest notes: This was a quick find on the side of the road, so I didn't get to observe many fruits, but it appears there are very little issues present. The pictured fruit had two very tiny spots of soot fungus.
