Harvesting Date: Mid October
Location: Salem, MI
Approximate Tree Age: 20-30 years
Tree Status: Appears to be cultivar, but is in a very unlikely location.
Possible Tree Varieties: Unknown
Fruit size: Medium to Large
Shape: Round-oblong
Fruit color: Deep yellow with red spotting and speckles of russetting
Skin: Thin and snappy with small lenticels that are occasionally russeted
Flesh: Light yellow and extremely juicy
Additional notes on appearance: A few of these were overripe when picked. I'm thinking they'd generally be slightly more greenish when perfectly ripe. Russeted stem-well.
Taste: Complex, with strong notes of melon and pineapple and pleasantly balanced tannins.
Texture: Crisp, snappy to bite into. Juicy.
Additional notes on taste: These were ever so slightly overripe when I got to them, but their bold, fresh flavors and crisp texture indicate they may be a good storing apple.
Disease/Pest notes: Typical wilding tree diseases and condition. Crowded, with rubbing and dead branches. Sooty apple spot with minimal flyspecking. No signs of scab, though some fruits are cracked from overripeness.
